melon bon bon dance steps

Photobucket
I have been thinking about these since I saw them over the weekend.
I have another pair of Dieppa Restrepo
elephant gray ones that are so
ripped up I only use them for dancing and that is a little nod to my favourite
dance floor friend. The melon colour is so bright and sweet, it'd be a nice pop
with the other summer fruit inspired gypsy colours I want to wear now.
(I'm searching for a mint coloured pair as well, give a tip if you spot them.)

amulet amore

Photobucket
I cannot exactly recall how I came across the design collective,
A Peace Treaty but after a look through their offerings, I was holding
back from ordering every bronze jangly item of adornment on the website.
In addition to jewels this season, Farah Malik and Dana Arbib have a line
of scarves and throws made by women artisans in the Himalayas. Each
season, they seek out artisans with a gift for handiwork and collaborate
with them, reinventing traditional crafts. I am determined to get them
to discover the talent coming out of the womens' hands in Armenia.

Anna Dello Russo, probably has to be my favourite editor to watch in terms
of her wearable selections. I think she appeals to my own sensibilities of
mixing colours and textures. Also the fact, that she sports pieces like that
Miu Miu heavily embellished, bordering on ice skater dress makes me
extremely envious.

Photobucket

back in december, Scout asked me to give them some ideas for my
trend predictions for the next ten years. the origins trend is something i
started to think about during my trip to Armenia this past july. they included
the top bit in their newsletter and i was super excited to see these looks from
the Alexandre Herchcovitch show in
São Paulo just this week. i really love
how he mixes references and creates something that is refreshed and seemingly
possible to sport oneself quite easily. so the hair accessorizing begins... oh and
the makeup is quite lovely as well.

i am big time crushing on some of the opening ceremony
spring pieces from their new look book. the washed out tie dye
suede was a smooth move on those triple bow kicks.

i have long been a follower of Lizzie Fortunato Jewels
since they did a collaboration with VPL and i love their
fall 2009 line with filled with road trip visions and patterns
and colours of the southwest. i have dreamed about visiting
this part of the country since i saw the film Newsies (santa fe!)
when i was ten and upon hearing about the lightning field
installation when i attended pratt pre college.

gilded, dark and golden

Photobucket

while i never have been much of a bag lady, always more a hat and shoe gal-
i feel so in need of the bags that phillip lim does
they are just a bit quirky and off with their colours and mix of materials
but so beautiful in this curious way

fredricks and mae is a design and creative collective based
in brooklyn and they are doing some great work with all
natural materials like creating these feather hair pieces,
pins and arrows
i spotted some of their pieces at maryam nassir zadeh
over the winter when i was selling my valentines
i recovered the memory of their work the other day
when i found some old arrows in a garbage bin in williamsburg

angry dancing ladies

Photobucket

this is the perfect time to come to sevilla, semana feria.
two weeks after semana santa and easter, sevillianos get down for a week
with horses, open up the bull rings, drink and dance themselves silly and
pull out the festive get ups.
all the chicks had out of control trajes de flamenco on. in all colors and shapes.
(i think the polka dot prints are a must)
they were also tricked out with the fans, fringe shawls, huge earrings, espadrillas,
hair combs and flowers on top their heads.
my first hour in the city, i saw a cluster of mujers singing and dancing in the street.
they looked great and i totally regretted not bringing along my red polka dotted number.

swedish fox

Photobucket

in my search for a proper yet nicely coloured backpack, during a ride on the L train, I spotted
one of these babies, the kanken, sported effectively by a swede. produced by fjallraven
(forgive the lack of proper swedish accents) and made in a variety of colours and a
few different sizes, i think they are brilliant and i plan to pick up the maxi kanken for an
upcoming trip. i spotted a few in opening ceremony over the weekend and they are also
sold at a few outdoor outfitting outlets online in europe.
EDIT- i recommend purchasing your kanken at mountain fox
with the pound dollar exchange at the moment, its a deal and they have heaps of colours
opening ceremony is charging well over the recommended and
even creatures of comfort raised their prices

my alpine girl

Photobucket

i really enjoyed the marni show this season. it grew up a bit from the wild weirdo girl it turned
into last season (although in some aspects i prefer that girl). it has been interesting to watch
consuelo evolve the sport influence and this felt like the ultimate climax of that. i saw a particular
mountain hiking influence with climbing leggings fused with patterned trousers and the anorak dresses
and over pieces. hit the slopes.

iranian mountain boots

Photobucket

the moment i saw these at the end of summer they informed my nostalgia for the
sight of my fathers old climbing boots and his cliff side tales in his high climbing days in iran.
a bit climber speed lacer and a shade stiff militant. so in turn, familial associations influence purchases.
